Written by: Gavin Good (@itsallG_O_O_D) Cuco is set to take the Canopy Club stage on Friday night at 10:30. Southern California artist Cuco has made a name for himself, putting out rose-tinted ballads of love that drip with relaxed, psychedelic overtones. At only 20 years old, Cuco is transforming month-by-month, release-by-release, into a superstar. His style is the kind that seamlessly transcends demographic barriers — he blends Spanish and English lyrics to tell charming stories about falling in love. Drawing on a sort of dream pop sound, Cuco also takes elements from hip-hop and even jazz in the way in which he weaves his tales around crafted drums and loops, mixed in with various instruments. Fresh off a Lollapalooza set in August, Cuco comes to Canopy as a buzzing young artist, and given the hip taste of many at Illinois and in the Champaign-Urbana community, expect his set on Friday night to be a real vibe. If you haven’t caught onto Cuco yet, check out his 2017 release, “Songs4u” below on Spotify for a sampling of his catalogue.
