Soundcloud pioneer Playboi Carti set for sold-out show at Canopy Club around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday night.
You read that right, Carti himself is pulling up to Champaign-Urbana. This certainly ranks up there as one of the biggest artists Pygmalion has brought to the community for the festival to date, and the show already sold out a while back. Getting his start in the depths of the Soundcloud world, the Atlanta rapper has emerged as a star over the past two years. Now as a pioneer of the path to the mainstream, with a horde of Soundcloud-shaped stars behind him, Carti has gotten to the point where he can drop Uzi-esque snippets that go viral (queue: my stummy hurt). Frequently collaborating with the likes of the A$AP Mob and adored by many at the peak of the music industry, Carti now has a host of hits and throwbacks — it’s a shame he can't play them all. I’d expect him to hit the Canopy-goers with a variety of the hits, laced with a few classics like “Fetti” and maybe “Heavy”. He’s got plenty of bangers on his 2018 album “Die Lit”, and the place is going to burst into a frenzy when he plays his infamous track “Magnolia”. If you’re reading this and you don’t know about Carti, I’m afraid it’s too late to secure a spot on Saturday night. But I’m not one to judge, see for yourself and check out the joint that made me a fan, “Fetti”, below on his Soundcloud.
