Written by: Amari H. Smith (@amarihsmith) Photos By: @SydFallsSince the launch of Prime Fortune we've been for the culture; from jump street Amari has been for the youth, which is why it makes sense for us to debut the Artist Spotlight segment with Kim. She is by far the youngest on the scene making moves influencing those around her, one piece at a time. Some might call her a "fashion designer" but I see her as a two sport pro, when Kim is not in the design lab you can probably catch her shootin' in the gym. I choose Kim to debut my segment because she embodies what a true influencer/ artist is: creative, unique, ambitious, and most importantly focused. Be sure to keep a close eye on her moves, even if you don't, she'll be sure to force you tune in. As of now she's garnered co-signs from some of the hottest in the city ( I'm not going to name drop, just know).
I asked her some questions for the viewers to check out: Q: What things inspire or influence you to create your art? A: I've always been really into art and customizing things from clothes all the way to Barbie dolls. My mom actually guided me through exploring denim; from cutting shorts to making wallets out of back pockets she was actually really cool about it, at first. I'm also a huge fan of music, artists such as Joey Purp, Trapo, Supa Bwe and Wemmy Mo have really been the soundtracks to my best customs. Q: How long have you been doing this ? A: I started customizing mid freshmen year after really putting money, and designs aside for my first jacket. A friend of mine gave me a jacket and told me go ahead at it. Q: Short background on growing up, goals, enjoyments and hobbies outside of design? A: I've always been a hands on kid that always had big dreams to be successful and known in Chicago. Throughout the years I've realized I would accomplish that goal through some type of art form. From creating beats, taking DJ'ing classes to learning how to screen print; I've always bought my visions to life. Other then designing and painting I play basketball in my spare time. Q: How would you describe your art to others? A: Every single thing I create is a statement piece. I design these jackets with things I observe about my customer combined with my own little touch. These jackets are my outlet, my diary, and damn near my children. I cherish these jackets and make sure they come out just how I imagined. Q: What is your long-term vision for your designs? A: The more I create the better I get. I'd love to advance my label into well known street wear brand. Nothing too big, but people will know my name. I'm in my second year of high school and I'm all about the grind. Q: Things you would like people reading the bio to know? A: I have a great bond with every model, photographer I've ever used. I have collabs coming up with KWRA, #WeMatter, Beam Life Apparel and District 7. Catch me on Truestar Magazine, and PROjectUs. Contact: kimproductorders@gmail.com
