How many of us are familiar with songs like “Fuck the Police” and “Gangsta, Gangsta”? These songs were the vocal demonstrations of young black men living in one of the most dangerous decades in history. Ice Cube and Dr. Dre serenade the screen with a moving montage with scenes of them cruising through the streets of California. Dre and Cube lament over how their music altered societal perception and how the younger generation has issues with the police just as they did in the 80’s. These two rappers are living pieces of history because what they have done for music is timeless and artful. There are cameo appearances from well-known Cali rappers Game and even Kendrick Lamar, who denotes how NWA was more than music but a deep rooted message for those in the struggle. They weren’t trying to be gang bangers or thugs, they simply wanted their message heard and understood. The film will be directed by the renowned director F. Gary Gray, who directed Friday, Set It Off, A Man Apart, and The Italian Job.  “Straight Outta Compton” will be released in theaters August 14, 2015. Check out the Red Band Trailer below

“Growing up in the middle of the 1980s on the streets of Compton, California was extremely hazardous for young black males. Five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally veracious music that rebelled against abusive ascendancy, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric elevation and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture perpetually the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.”
