Written by: Zach Deitz After months of work, the new label: 41collective, is ready to drop their first project, featuring their first artist. The debut of Yomi, and his EP “Free Agent” is equally as strong a start for the South Florida native, as it is for the 41collective label. Yomi has been creating buzz since the fall, when he dropped his first mixtape, “The Balance”, which has been streamed over 300,000 times on Soundcloud. This newest project features 7 tracks, including guest appearances from Johnny Cinco, of Migos “QC” label, and Lucki Eck$, the Chicago up-and-comer, and frequent collaborator of some of the biggest names coming out of the Windy City. In addition, “Free Agent”, features production from recent Grammy nominee, Metro Boomin, and production from another member of the 41collective team, producer Hu$tle Crowe. As an EP, it is very diverse, and showcases a wide array of rapping abilities. For instance, on the track “Get Right”, Featuring Johnny Cinco, Yomi presents a ferocious flow, barely taking a breath, and spitting bar after bar. In contrast, on the track, “MOTIVATION”, he shows a slower side, utilizing the popular practice of auto-tune, and singing in different parts of the song, to go along with the rhythm of the beat. The production on the tape is bass heavy, and features some synths mixed in as well. A lot of the beats are dark and mystifying, and engulf you in their sound. Overall, this tape is a smashing start for the 41collective label, and for Yomi himself. The tape is well put together, and the hard work that was put in, is differently reflected in the sound that was created. It would be an understatement to say to look out for Yomi, and 41collective, moving forward, as this tape is sure to create quite a buzz. Give it a listen!
