Chance The Rapper takes a stride in the land of activism with his latest venture. The hometown favorite has announced that he has organized an open mic forum for the youth of the Chicago. The biweekly event will be titled "Open Mike" a tribute to the late youth mentor Mike Hawkins aka Brother Mike, who was the spearhead for the Youmedia youth program who, which facilitated and influenced a lot of Chance's early work. Open Mike will be open exclusively to high school students in the city of Chicago and will begin on Monday February 9th. It is especially refreshing to see this come so soon after many wondered what would happen with the future of Youmedia in the wake of Brother Mikes untimely passing. This project also carries a genuine appeal as it has been incepted by an artist who himself was a beneficiary of similar programs which we have seen has allowed his influence to reach a worldwide audience. I'm sure this event will be a success and soon be remembered as historical moment for our city's youth. The event will be held at Chicago's cultural center located at 78 east Washington.
