A return to form occurs for the duo of Da-P and Mick Jenkins as both musicians connect on their latest offering "Lemonade,” which is their first collaboration since 2016’s “Sunkissed,” and they mesh together perfectly. Da-P has been on the Soulection roster as a producer for years now and has combined an array of influences from his globe-trekking adventures on this piece of production. The keys feel as woozy as ever and the drums have an odd mixture of snap and smoothness to them.
It’s the perfect backdrop for Chicago’s superstar Mick to show off his self-proclaimed “renegade” side. His flow is as fluid as ever, picking up the pace to emphasize his wordplay but easily retreating to harmonize and focus on the core melody of the song in the next instant. Mick is reminiscent of his come up and how he “had to take my country time, had to take some humble pie” to get to the position he is in now. Although years have passed this combination still hits deeper than ever, and is certainly a great late-night track for this Friday night.
