Frank Samuel released his EP, “Cycle Blue”, about a month back, and we couldn’t just let it slip by without a salute. On the project, Samuel, who just moved to Tennessee, shares his unique view of the world through six tracks (eighteen minutes) of realistically sanguine music that still has a dreamy quality to its sound.
He handled all his own production and the project technically doesn’t have any features — though you can hear some of his homies’ contributions lingering amidst the layers — and it was engineered by Javi. Diego (of Choose Love clothing) put his touch on the project, staging and taking the illustrious photo of Frank submerged in the water. His favored steady guitar and piano chords intertwine seamlessly with his vocals for a project that carries a consistent energy from track to track. The EP’s checkered with a variety of Frank’s observations, like on opener “Good Friends”, when he muses, “caught the blogs with them pay schemes, name a friend who don’t sing”.
