If you don’t know who Yung lean is look up Yung Lean- "Hurt" on youtube, but pretty much he is a Swedish rapper who’s name is Leandoer (Lee-an-der is the pronunciation)
I often hear Yung lean being grouped together with the Lil b’s, Riff Raffs and Lil debbie’s of the world. Hip Hop aficionados say that there is absolutely no lyricism in his rhymes and that the only half way decent aspect of his music is the production which is headed by Yung Sherman and Yung gud.
I honestly believe that these are unfair judgements based off the fact that his videos are unlike anything most of us have seen and are kind of reminiscent of the annoying dumb fucks that try too hard and go on tumblr all the time. If you look past the minor details that make you not take Yung Lean seriously I think you’ll find that he is actually very good at crafting really catchy spacey tripped out songs that have some depth (albeit not a a lot). He does say some ridiculous things “poppin pills like zits, while someone pukes on your mosquito tits” while at the same time he’ll hit you with gems like “trying to be down to earth but the floor is really melting”.
Yes, his songs are not beautifully written poems but he’s opened the floor for nerdier internet mawgs (spooky black, lil ugly mane, little pain) to make music and actually have a platform to say it on. His crew sadboys is kind of an unheard thing in hip hop because most rapper’s would never glorify something like being sad or emotional. Yung lean makes emotions and sadness a main theme in his songs and I think that this is key in how successful he has become. Kids all across the world have now started wearing bucket hats and editing their pictures with pokemon and lean bottles.
Regardless of what I say here you probably already decided what you think about him I just want to clear the air on some criticisms I’ve seen. I leave you all with his most recent video from his upcoming album "Unknown Memory".
