When I first heard Jean Deaux bless Isaiah Rashad's "Menthol" hook (mixtape Cilvia Demo) with her smooth, soulful vocals; I felt like she would be a perfect blend of that R&B, rap vibe. Sure enough, she appears on Mick Jenkins' song "Healer" (mixtape "The Waters") singing the chorus, along with rapping a melodic featuring verse, ending with "so when I stumbled into you I knew that it was god". This phrase is perfect, and relatable to any relationship you have with loved ones.
Anyway onto to the new track. In this solo song "Stay", produced by the ever talented Donnie Trumpet of Chance the Rapper's Social Experiment; Deaux, with her soft, jazzy vocals, seem to be yearning for her significant other to simply stay with her. We've all experienced this at some point, and the tone of this song really inspires a trip down memory lane, as Nas would say. With Mr. Trumpet's crisp, harp-like sounds, he has truthfully produced one of the most unique beats to come out recently. Check out "Stay/stars crossed", the latest from Jean Deaux featuring the wonderful Donnie Trumpet, below.
