In a city like Chicago, where new artists pop up on the daily, it can be hard to cut through the noise and see who’s worth giving your attention. I’ll get straight to the point and let you know Malo BRIGADE is absolutely one of those artists you need to be listening to right now.
Today he drops off his debut full-length project y-i (Fin de Gee), which might surprise some listeners since he raps with the polish and confidence of a seasoned artist well beyond his years. Malo’s charisma is ever present throughout the entire project, which features guest appearances from Mia Alva & Basi, among others, as well as production from Dario Parra, Rene Marban and Malo himself along with a host of other producers. The tape opens up with the first single, y-i and from there leads listeners on a trek that covers a range of hip-hop soundscapes, including bouncy trap-influenced 808’s, sparse boom-bap, synth driven melodies and even some classic instrumentals that most young artists would shy away from out of fear of not being up to par. Malo however, is different, and distinguishes himself with his self-assured confidence in his ability to not only rap better than most of his peers, but to be able to pull it all together and make a cohesive project that is sure to be a hit with listeners right out the gate.
Stream y-i (Fin de Gee), available now on all platforms, and be sure to dial in with Malo and keep an eye out for all the moves he has planned next.
