Netherfriends dropped "Chappelle's Show Beat Tape" this week, which is centered around Dave Chappelle Show skit samples. Initially, I thought this tape was going to be a comedy in itself, but the way Netherfriends employs his samples is similar to the way Dave Chappelle constructs his comedy.
Each track represents a character from the show, which very intriguingly works also as a social commentary. For example, the track "Here We Go Again!" features a sample of "cocaine is a hell of a drug"; and we are, once again, in an age of sensationalized cocaine use. After feeling like Rick James, we get a track centered around Chappell's legendary character, Tyrone Biggums, who's literally a crack head.
Netherfriends definitely created a hell of a tape with this one. It's awesomely hilarious at the surface level, and deeply reflective at the analytical level. Check out "Chappelle's Show Beat Tape", by Netherfriends below.
