The last couple weeks have been nuts for Chicago hip hop fans. So many events with guest appearances, so much new music being dropped, not to mention the buzz about who could possibly be on the soundtrack for the infamous upcoming Spike Lee movie "Chiraq". The movie did shoot scenes at the local venue Double Door this past week and at other various Wicker Park locations.
Jake Krez speaks with local artists Chance The Rapper, Donnie Trumpet and the rest of the Social Experiment.
The highly anticipated Donnie Trumpet & Social Experiment x Chance The Rapper Project was released and did some awesome numbers. The album was downloaded over 618,000 times in the first week of release. If the numbers don't speak for themselves and you still have somehow not heard this new album I highly recommend checking it out as soon as you can. I mean what do you have to lose, it's free! Now that wasn't the only album dropped either though. Chicago rising star Lil Durk dropped his debut album "Remember My Name" through his label Def Jam and that has done numbers as well and still rising, including selling out of the first print of hard copies. I recommend giving both of these dope projects a good listen through. Chicago music is really stepping it up now. You'd think that was all after new movies and crazy albums being dropped but that is not even close. We have the Blackhawks fighting it out to bring home the Cup. We had Drake come out recently and for those of you who didn't make it out he turned up with the city even performing Chief Keef hit "Faneto". Then across the city at Joe's Bar on Weed St., Miguel did a performance where he brought out none other than Chicago hero Chance The Rapper and the always entertaining A$AP Ferg. We also had Alex Wiley turning up and getting it with his friends and fans for his 22nd Birthday and Stefan Ponce rocked the Bottom Lounge.
