Sterling Hayes is gearing up for the release of his second project, “SideFX”, and he just dropped the first single from it in “Schizophrenia”. It’s a song that those familiar with Hayes will probably recognize as coming from him — it’s raw and filled with honest, painful observations.
“Schizophrenia” conveys Hayes’ dissatisfaction with life and balancing the pursuit of his goals, all while trying to be happy and put on for his people. He tapped longtime collaborator Spanish Diego for the production on this one, and the beat chef provides an ambience of nostalgic-sounding brass horns and 808's that almost seem to play out in slow motion. Singer Stan Sono fills in with the background vocals as Hayes lays out his reality, rapping, “moms workin’ hard as hell, just in case I fail I told her imma give ‘em hell, inhale the smoke and fill my head, my ATM is still my bed, parasites inside my head”.
If there’s one thing that this single tells listeners, it’s that Hayes is locked in and set to go with his next project. Expect it to be diverse and dynamic like 2016’s “Antidepressant”, but reflective of the growth and experiences Hayes has had in the time since.
