Drake solidifies his tenure in the rap game by setting up at Nike Headquarters and tapping Lil Durk to join him in a sort of celebratory ballad produced by Cardo (@CardoGotWings) showcasing both of the rappers' success.
The production is seemingly regal with a homecoming feel as Durk and Drake take turns reminding us of their growth as artists. Lil Durk accompanies Drake as he remains one of the most consistent rappers stemming from Chicago's drill scene with his harmony-driven delivery and persona as the voice of the streets. Following the release of his fifth album Just Cause Y'all Waited 2 (which reached No.2 on the Billboard chart) Lil Durk earned another opportunity to flex as he and Drake navigate Nike Headquarters alongside each other in golf-carts, jet-skis, and photo-ops throughout the video.
Directed by Dave Meyers, "Laugh Now Cry Later" is a candid testament to Drake's dedication to his character as an effortless hitmaker and progression as an entertainer. In true Drake fashion, he's seen shooting in the gym with cameos from Kevin Durant and NFL stars OBJ and Marshawn Lynch. Drake reminds us that rap for him has become a sport and like Durk, he's earned bragging rights. Part of what makes Drake a withstanding emblem of rap music is his cultural relevance. For laughs, the video features an intermittent skit from Atlanta-based content creator Druski (@Druski2funny) where he encourages Drake to check his emotions.
"Laugh Now Cry Later" is an instant hit trending No.1 on Youtube and serves as a tribute to the creative evolution and musical accolades of both artists.
